"The Artist” is the romantic comedy that swept the Oscars despite being silent and in black and white. It received universal acclaim from critics both in the U.S. and Europe. It garnered the coveted awards of Best Actor, Best Director and Best Film at the 2012 Academy Awards. The film is set in Hollywood in the glamorous 1920s and follows a silent movie star, George Valentin, as he wonders if the arrival of “talkies” will cause him to fade into oblivion. He sparks a friendship with Peppy Miller, the quintessential young dancer who is poised for her “big break.”
